Nobody reads these posts besides me and maybe some random webcrawler so I feel safe to say the things I am going to say here. It is not a slight to them but I have no other way of wording this so it might sound rude which I hope it does not.

A couple of days ago, I went over to a friend of a friends house to play some magic. They have a huge house in a nice quiet neighbourhood a bit away from the city. There is space on the side for 2 cars to park and there even is a charging spot for an electric car which they own.

This friend of my friend (and I guess my acquaintance (idk how social ranking formalities actually work but I digress)) is a bit older than me and my friend. Not much but definitely a different generation. They’ve had time to establish themselves in the world. They’ve seen and experience more than we did. I’m making it sound like they are ancient or something but they are just like middle aged.

Okay so nice big house, nice neighbourhood etc etc. I enter the house and after formalities of greeting, I enter the living room. On my 2 o’clock there is a big dining table. The front side (the side nearest to me) has some chairs and the backside has a couch/bench like idea. The table is a nice wooden type of deal. Further to my right around the corner is a big open kitchen with a bar section to sort of close it off. On my left is the “regular” living room.

Once we are all in doors he puts on some random ass music and gets some things ready so we can play magic. It is some kind of relaxing yoga-esque type background music. Genuinely no clue. But as I mentally move through this section of the house, as I am also taking out my magic things, I notice something. I notice that my memories align a bit too much with where I actually am. I don’t know how to exactly describe it but I will do my best in the next paragraph.

When I am in a room and especially rooms I have not been in before, I like to move through my memories of them so I can establish points of references or what not. I take (mental) note of where there is a plant, or a closet, drawer, etc. Really just a generic lay of the land mental map. I don’t really keep track of the color of things. Maybe some muted tones but no high definition snap shot of it. So, at best everything is slightly pastel coloured in my mind unless something is exceedingly bright or memorable.

However, this room (and most likely the entire indoor area) is just pastel minimalist. At one point I went to the bathroom and the toilet was bronze and slightly smaller than a more generic toilet. It felt strange. Now that I am writing it down it makes me thing of that one scene in Fight Club where he is describing his furniture and we get to see the prices of them according to the magazines.

And I guess that is why I wanted to preface it with that I did not mean it as an insult but it seemed. Empty. Not physically but emotionally. This person, my acquaintance, is clearly comfortably middle-class maybe even upper middle-class if that is a thing (idk I am definitely a lower-class tho). Just it felt like I was inside the idea of a home. The idea of what a financially comfortable nuclear family would live in the future which is anything post 2020.

If you google “minimalist house interior (which I just did moments before typing this sentence), you will basically see what their inside living space looked like. The images I am seeing are a bit more cramped but just add “spacious” or something before it and you would get the idea. It was more a space than a living space. Also, I don’t get how people keep their house so clean. Idk man maybe when I’m in my 30s I’ll get to learn that part of living.

That is all. I…yea it felt kind of weird when I thought too much about the space I was in. Love their company tho and enjoy talking to them so no shade to them at all. Just really had to get this of my chest.
